TYRANTS JUST RELEASED A SINGLE AND WE'RE PRETTY NOSEY OVER HERE AT WIZARD WATER, WE THOUGHT WE'D DIVE RIGHT IN.
SINGLE NAME IS - SWING - LISTEN HERE
Consisting of Dylan Butler [lead vocals, lead guitar], Bailey Mitchell [guitar] and Eden Webb [bass].
A sonic wave of modern alternative Australian rock that involves a group of best mates doing what they love most.
With years worth of experience playing in previous bands these lads pull together a huge sound that relates to bands such as Kings of Leon, The Vanns and Holy Holy. This being a concoction of widely expressive and experimental melodic lines that are conducted throughout the intricate musical parts within their highly catchy and loveable tunes.
With an all mighty new single ‘Swing’ the boys are planning for a big year ahead.
Hailing from Central Coast (Darkinjung), NSW Australia
Congratulations on the release of your new single "Swing"! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the song and what listeners can expect from it?
"Thank you! The song all started from the main guitar riff that happens throughout the song. It was stuck in my head for weeks and was an awesome jam at band practice for a while until I came up the melody one day and as most of my songs start most of the inspiration was from how I was feeling about life and music wanting to push forward and stay strong / committed no matter what happens. People can expect a short, sweet, bundle of awesome little riffs and messages on how I felt at the time." - Dylan
You have a gig at King Street Newcastle next Friday. How do you prepare for live performances, and what can fans expect from your upcoming show?
"We try and get as many rehearsals in as possible whilst making sure we have a sick set of old and new (and maybe a new cover) to give everyone the complete satisfaction. It's also been a while since we've played so we wanted to make sure we crammed all the tunes in!" - Dylan
Tyrants is described as a sonic wave of modern alternative Australian rock. How would you define your sound, and what sets you apart from other bands in the scene?
"We feel as though not many bands are still doing the heavier guitar driven rock style stuff, it seems to be a dying art for bands to be playing fluent well structured solos / guitar work that is articulate and flows well around the song and a riff. I feel like the simple structures and catchy melodies make it great for any listener but also pleases the very musical ear by having super cool solos and riffs to add on top." - Dylan
Your music has been compared to bands like Kings of Leon, The Vanns, and Catfish and the Bottlemen. How have these artists influenced your sound, and are there any other musicians who have inspired you?
"We've all grown up listening to great artists and big artists like those mentioned and I think like anything influence plays a major role in the music that a band creates, that being said we bring a different sound to all of them. With all of our band members sharing similar influences like these I guess we all had our own view of the music we as individuals wanted to write and play so when we all come together we Mould it into what we call tyrants. - Bailey
As a group of best mates, how does your friendship influence your creative process and overall dynamic as a band?
"We believe that our friendship and similarities as mates adds to elevate the overall mood between us when it comes down to writing and piecing together music. We all share an optimistic view and outlook surrounding life and it bleeds into our creativeness and Dylan's lyric writing. Spending so much time together over the years and enjoying each other's company and friendship has allowed the inevitability for us to build a strong chemistry between each of us when it comes to playing music together live. - Bailey
With years of experience playing in previous bands, how has that background shaped your approach to making music with Tyrants?
"I think all of our previous bands and gigs have taught us a lot. From articulating setlists, logistics, planning shows etc there's something to learn about doing all of those things 100s of times and it's really comforting when you have a group of mates that are super easy going, get along well and know the steps and procedures to running a band and all the things that come with that. Something I've come to realise over the years is that the most important thing to have in a band is a bunch of mates that love each other and can work together well when pressure hits taking nothing to heart." - Dylan
Can you take us through your songwriting process? How do you go about crafting your highly catchy and loveable tunes?
"Most of the music is written by me and I'm very hard on myself when it comes to songwriting and usually won't use anything if I'm not 100% with it, it hasn't been stuck in my head for weeks or I haven't had the urge to sing it out loud or play the riff. I'll usually start with a fun catchy riff or hook (something that I know other people could definitely catch onto) and then write most of the song around that motif with lyrics that are usually just a documentation of how I'm feeling at the time or what's going on in my life that I kinda need to get out. Once I have somewhat of a structure, I'll bring it to band practice and jam it with the boys until the dynamics and structure feel comfortable whilst rejigging lyrics until the day of recording ahaha. But the main test is usually a gig or two to make sure it really works with the set before the song really earns its rights to be recorded and released. - Dylan
What does the future hold for Tyrants? Are there any upcoming projects or goals that you're excited about?
"We actually have a lot planned for 2024. First of all this single and single launch coming up that we are really keen for. Then around June we have a 7 date tour lined up for another single and after that, in a perfect world, we are hoping to get an EP out in the later part of the year. We also have some good shows with bigger name artists that we are really looking forward to. We are hoping 2024 is full of growth for us as a band." - Eden
How do you stay connected with your fans, and what role do they play in your journey as a band?
"We try our best to make most of our connections with fans over socials by responding to absolutely everyone that comments or reacts to our stuff, we want to make sure everyone feels involved and we want to show our appreciation for people listening to our art. Same goes for our live shows, we always try to make the effort to stick around and chat to anyone who has enjoyed the show, even if its just a quick hello!" - Dylan
Finally, as a band from the Central Coast (Darkinjung), NSW, how has your upbringing and surroundings influenced your music and lyrics?
'I guess just being around the amazing coastline and cool little venues and great people has all played a part in the vibe and lyrical nature of all of our songs. With songs like 'Firelight Sundrive' that has a deeper meaning of enjoying life and having fun with mates around the ocean and sun kind of relates back to being around such a vibrant beachie area and great mates to spend time with. All of our songs have little pieces of experiences and times we have all had growing up in the area. - Bailey
