Can you tell us about your journey as a musician? What inspired you to start writing songs at the age of 14?
growing up in a household with lots of music definitely influenced me to want to make my own music. I’ve always been drawn to the songwriting element of music and i think my earliest inspirations to create my own music were artist such as Ed Sheeran and Bob Dylan.
Your music blends folk, indie, and pop. How do you incorporate these different genres into your sound?
i really just make whatever music i’m currently feeling like. I’m trying not to limit myself to one genre or one specific sound.
Can you share the inspiration behind your new EP, “Seasons”? What themes and stories are you exploring in this release?
Seasons was very inspired by my life right now and my current musical influences. This was very much an experimental project for me and I wanted to try new styles and new ways of creating then what I’ve done before.
What was the recording process like for “Seasons”? Did you face any challenges or have any memorable moments while working on the EP?
The recording process was pretty straightforward on this project. Creating “Dont Let Go” was probably the most fun i’ve ever had making a song because it was just very different to anything Id ever made before and I love pushing myself outside my comfort zone when creating.
You mentioned that your influences range from Bob Marley to Fred Again and Bon Iver. How have these artists shaped your music and songwriting?
Each of these artist music I love so much, Bon Iver was probably the artist that opened me up to experimenting the most. Just trying to convey the same emotion through sound that they do has definitely been a goal of mine. Fred Again definitely exposed me to more electronic and ambient music. Especially his album with Brian Eno called secret life. I really want to make a whole ambient project one day. Marleys lyrics definitely affected me the most, I’ve only gotten into him recently but i’m a massive fan of his songwriting and how he crafted so many timeless songs.
Which song from the “Seasons” EP holds the most personal significance to you, and why?
the most personal songs to me are probably “what we have” and “what you say”. “what we have” was inspired by someone very close to me and “what you say” i made very closely with my friend jonathan. So those two both have pretty personal significance to me.
As an independent artist, what have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in releasing your music?
Being Independent, at first i struggled with how to promote myself on social media. As uncomfortable as it can be sometimes, it’s a tool that independent artist have to learn how to use.
What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your EP “Seasons”?
I just hope people enjoy it and can find their own meaning and connection with the songs.
How do you balance your music career with other aspects of your life, especially being so young?
It definitely can get hard, I’m in year 12 at the moment and balancing school and music and a social life can sometimes be pretty overwhelming. It just comes down to managing my time and sometimes having to make sacrifices when I need to get something done.
What are your future plans as an artist? Are there any upcoming projects or goals you’re particularly excited about?
I’m currently working on my album which I hope to drop late this year or early next year. My other future goals in music right now, would be to secure a manager and a booking agent. I’m also aiming to open for biggest artist at their shows and I would like to eventually perform interstate.
